First Attempts.

Don’t always turn out perfectly, but in this case, it was still pretty tasty. Tonight, for the first time in my life, I made Bubble tea. It wasn’t the best Bubble tea I’ve ever had, and it wasn’t because I used skim milk. My mistake was using too many tapioca balls, which really wasn’t that big of a deal until I got to the end of the tea mixture and still had half of the tapioca balls left. Lesson learned. Go easy on the tapioca balls and use some thicker milk.

Cake Making

My cousin, Mary Beth, devouring the cake icing.

I made my first ever cake from scratch today, with a lot of guidance from my grandma. It was quite an experience, but really fun. So fun that I think I might try it again, someday… Here’s the recipe, in case you want to try it out.

Red Velvet Cake

1/2 cup shortening

1 1/2 cup sugar

2 eggs

2 cups of flour

1 tablespoon cocoa

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk

2 ounces of red food coloring

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 tablespoon vinegar

What to do with all your ingredients:

Cream the shortening, sugar, eggs until light. Sift the flour, cocoa, and salt 2 times. When done sifting, add alternatively with the buttermilk, red food coloring. Beat well. Then add the baking soda and vinegar. Bake at the 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Delicious.


5 tablespoon flour
1 cup milk
1 cupĀ  butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cook flour and milk until smooth and thick, stirring constantly. Cool thoroughly. Beat sugar and butter well with electric beater. Add vanilla, mix well. Add to cooled flour and milk mixture. Beat until right consistency to spread. Becomes fluffy like whipped cream.
